India’s first mini Superbike Yamaha R15 was launched on June 12, 2008, it brought a revolution then the country with the introduction of technologies like Liquid cooling, Die-cast cylinder, Deltabox frame Fuel injection aerodynamic cowl and etc. It was a suppose to be the scale down version of the legendry Yamaha R1. Yamaha is expected to launch the bike at the end of this month.
R-15 shares the same platform as the Yamaha V-Ixion selling in Indonesia, with the engine and chassis remaining the same. The engine was tuned for higher power and torque, 6-speed transmission was incorporated, a linked type sport suspension added on the back. Fairings were added for improved aerodynamics.
Now the competition is heating up in the performance segment
Yamaha has got what most people wanted, they have increased the tyre width, they have changed the tail section which is now similar to Yamaha R6, and they also have changed the swing-arm which is borrowed from younger sibling R125. Now nobody will complain about its look.
The question arises on the Engine department where Yamaha will have to increase the power or the engine capacity in other to handle new changes and to satisfy the fuel conscious complainants. If they keep the same engine without tuning it then the bike will not get the optimum power and fuel economy (Mileage) as the rear section might be 130, they need more power to pull the bike and not face the issues what FZ /Fazer is facing.
