As the craze of motorsports in India is gaining momentum, we have been receiving a lot of queries about how to start racing career. So we thought that we should bring you the collated details to start your motorsports career in India. So this goes for you!!

Motorsports in India is controlled by a central body called The Federation of Motor Sports Club of India (FMSCI). While the actual sports events are usually organized by various clubs in the country. The Guidelines, Technical Regulations, and Common Organizing Conditions are formulated, coordinated and implemented by the Federation.

We, at India also have another association called the Motorsports Association of India (MIA) which is is the Member of the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) in India. It is the Association responsible for the promotion of automotive sport in India under the International Sporting Code of the FIA.

There are several types of Motor Sports events conducted by the Clubs in India. They are Circuit Racing, Rally, Motocross / Supercross, SuperMoto, Hill Climb, Dirt Track Racing, Drag Meet, Motor Gymkhana, Autocross, Karting, etc.

How to go about it?:

  1. Find out the club nearest to your place of residence.
  2. Become a member of the same (which is optional).
  3. Decide in which category of the automobile you would like to take part i.e. two or four-wheelers.
  4. Decide what type of event you would like to start participating in. Experienced members of the club will be able to guide you in this.

What are the Qualifications and Requirements for starting a racing career?:

  1. You will need the basic qualification of being over 18 years of age and possession of a valid driving license for on-road events like rallies before you go through the following formalities. However, for Off Road / Circuit Racing events, a license may be issued to a competitor under 18 years, but not below 15 years, on the basis of a strong recommendation from their Club / Team. However, for 2 wheeler unmodified class (Group D) up to 135 cc,/ Mopeds, the minimum age is 13 years. For Karting license the minimum age is 8 years.
  2. You also need an FMSCI Competition License which will be issued by the FMSCI only. The application / medical forms can be downloaded
  3. This set will consist of an application form for the Licence andMedical Certificate Forms. You will need to fill in the application form and get the Medical Certificate filled in by an approved Medical practitioner with his signature & seal.
  4. Complete the forms in all respects and send the same to your Club or to the FMSCI direct with all necessary enclosures and the necessary fees.

At the actual event:

  1. What you need basically is a vehicle to take part.
  2. The vehicle must have current registration and a valid Comprehensive Insurance cover.
  3. If borrowed from somebody, you must have an authorization letter from the legal owner allowing you to use the same in the competition.
  4. For any event, you also need a special insurance cover for the competition. Your normal vehicle Insurance will not cover taking part in a competition. This will have to be taken to cover the period of competition.
  5. Once you have decided the event in which you want to participate, write to the Club which organizes that event for an entry form.
  6. Complete all the data in full and send the same along with the required entry fee to the club concerned. Make sure that you have enclosed all the required documents and the entry is submitted in time.

The above information highlights the basic requirement of the vehicle and equipment to be possessed by you for entering Motor Sports. Two Wheelers and Four wheelers are dealt with separately.

    My passion is F1 racing and i dont know any means of getting into it. I am 20 right now. I want to be an F1 racer.
    Though it might sound funny but that is not at all so.
    I understand how difficult it is to get there and it has to be started at an early age. But please do suggest me atleast about the basic level from where can i start. There’s no words to describe my impatience about racing, I have my loving bike Pulsar 150DTSi and whenever i see any bike every thought in my mind is racing…. i mostly do on busy streets but … keep safety of citizens first and try not to overwhelm them…because there’s no racing track in PATNA… I wannna participate in MOTOGP and beat everyone outthere on the track.

  170. Hey, I’m Alex…since last year I hv been into illegal street racing. In every race I joined, I end up wrekng up my dad’s car.Till date I hv already wrekd 11 cars. Smtimes I also ends up at the PS. The devil inside me had given the idea that if u can drive fast enough like insane then u can race. Practically on groud I came to find out that its not all about speed its the coordination between body and mind, understanding the car, handling, stiff corners, when to react…that matter most. Of course speed is reqd but with perfect handling otherwise will end up in worst case scenes. I dont need councelling as what to do to avoid that, but at the same time I want to spread the msg to all the readers that when u r not behing the wheels, u dont risk ny1 xpt u but when u r behind the wheels n u think speed is the only thing then u r not only risking ur life but also the ones around u…N believe me I hv seen many worst scenes especially by putting my dear ones at risk..so think before u throttle down.

Those below 16 start doing hardcore karting only thats the way to learn the art of Cornering, Believe me my friends racing is all about lines. And you better have your pockets filled for sure. Professional racing in India is too damn expensive as of now. So if someone meets all the above mentioned criteria then have at least 10lac ready for a season.

  245. hi sir, i am sridhar ,am belongs to Tamilnadu…i really having cofident to race in cars…how come i get in is ..?i started my driving in at the age of 13 with out the help of any one’s guide…am my self learned bykes,cycles,cars,even through train…but i not having any options in flights…within those things i know my self am well in cars….believe it r not i really dont know to go slow…i dont know why…i dont have any cars to go more than 168 kmph….from my self i learned some drifting because i knowthat will help in races to get first in track..am very serious in roads..i dont have any sources to get entered into the racing field…wat i had thought from me is no fear and no mind diversion and confident..being with out proffectional in my life i dint saw any one equql to me …..while putting the top gear i always lost my self…..i hope u can understand …pls take me into urs proffectional world i will sure u i give my very best and i will not let urs name down untill i die on the track…trust me…..if u like me pls call me on this no:9206509495
