Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 Phantom – Positive Evolution
The Royal Enfield Himalayan has long been celebrated as a capable, accessible adventure bike, but for those who find the factory specifications limiting for serious off-road use, a new contender has emerged. Developed by Cooperb Motorcycles, one of the UK’s most active Royal Enfield dealers, the Himalayan 450 Phantom Edition is a reworked version of the Sherpa-powered 450 designed to be an “enduro scalpel”. This build isn’t just a one-off custom; it is a repeatable, customer-orderable package that has already proven its mettle by winning the Big Bike Single class at the demanding 2026 Valleys X-Treme Lite event in Wales.

The Foundation: A Stealthy Start – Himalayan 450 Phantom
The Phantom build begins with the Himalayan 450 Mana Edition, chosen for its “stealthlike” aesthetic. This base provides black tubeless rims, black hubs, a black frame, and the factory rally seat unit. From this foundation, Cooperb reworks the motorcycle from the ground up to address the platform’s limitations and boost its dirt potential.
Engine and Performance Upgrades – Himalayan 450 Phantom
To sharpen the performance of the 452cc single-cylinder engine, the Phantom receives a significant suite of “Performance Parts”. This includes a DNA intake kit and a full HP Corse exhaust system, which together improve throttle response and provide a much crisper bottom-end feel, essential for technical off-road riding.
The heart of the fueling management is the FuelX Pro Plus fuel controller. Unlike simpler versions, the Pro Plus offers ten user-adjustable fueling positions. While positions one and two offer an “eco mode” leaner than standard, positions four through ten increase fuel delivery for optimum performance. Ian from Cooperb Motorcycles notes that they typically run their bikes on position seven to match the correct amount of fuel for the modified intake and exhaust.
Enhanced Range and Handling – Himalayan 450 Phantom
One of the most striking visual and functional changes is the installation of a 23-liter (6-gallon) Acerbis rotationally molded plastic tank. This tank adds 1.5 gallons of capacity over the stock unit, but more importantly, it is designed to carry the bulk of its weight lower in the chassis. This lowers the bike’s center of gravity, improving handling in tricky terrain.
For traction, the Phantom swaps stock rubber for Bridgestone AX41 tires, a 60/40 dirt-to-road tire known for excellent off-road grip and predictable road manners. To prevent mud buildup from locking the front wheel in heavy conditions, the build features a lower front fender delete and a custom brake-line relocation kit that reroutes the front hose safely along the fork leg.
Chassis, Protection, and Ergonomics
Durability is a core focus of the Phantom Edition. The bike is outfitted with a comprehensive protection suite from Acerbis, including:
- Heavy-duty plastic skid plate that wraps fully around the engine and exhaust.
- Engine covers (X-Power) and radiator mesh.
- Handguards and fork tube guards.
For rider stability, Pivot Pegz are fitted, providing a larger contact area and allowing the pegs to move with the rider’s boots when standing. For those tackling particularly technical trails, Cooperb often fits a 13-tooth front sprocket to provide stronger bottom-end pull.
Tailored Suspension
Perhaps the most significant upgrade for serious riders is the suspension. Cooperb offers a choice between Hagon or K-Tech rear shocks at no price difference, both of which are sprung specifically for the individual rider’s weight. While both offer adjustable compression and preload, the K-Tech unit adds rebound damping adjustment. For riders seeking even more capability, an 18-inch rear wheel conversion is available to increase ground clearance and provide access to a wider variety of specialized knobby and mousse tire options.
A Proven Blueprint for Adventure
The Phantom 450 is the result of Cooperb’s deep history with the platform, dating back to racing the original 411 in 2018. It is designed for riders who see the Himalayan as a platform to customize rather than a finished product.
The Phantom Edition starts at £10,299 (approximately $ 13,685) and can reach roughly £12,000 ($15,944) for a fully optioned build, including lightweight SM Pro rims and front suspension upgrades. For adventure enthusiasts, it represents a clear blueprint of what the Himalayan can become when tuned for hardcore use.
