Chevrolet Beat Diesel launch on 27th July confirmed

Chevrolet Beat

In the small car segment Spark and Beat are doing a fair amount of success, like Ford which has been selling Figo like no other in the segment because of its Diesel option with any waiting period. Chevrolet decided to increase its sales by giving the edgy and sporty Beat a new heart.

Beat was first showcased as a concept model in 2009 it is very similar to its concept model. Chevrolet Beat was launched in 2010 Delhi Auto-Expo where it had 1.2litre petrol engine which churns out 80.5 bhp and 108nm torque. It just changed the look of the segment with its radical design, sporty image and refreshing looks.

The diesel version Beat has been in testing since January 2011.Beat is powered by 936cc 3-cylinder derivative of the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine from FIAT. The engine is good for 56-60PS of power and should be a lucrative proposition for the mileage conscious entry level customer. It is said that this particular engine is being locally developed by the Indian arm of FIAT Powertrain Technologies (FPT) for Chevrolet India. GM engineers have managed to attain excellent NVH levels on the car and the vibrations are even lower than the Volkswagen Polo Diesel. The Polo Diesel also uses a 3-cylinder motor, but produces more power and significantly better torque.

Chevrolet needed this new engine desperately as Beat was losing sale to its rival and a diesel engine will make the sales better as it is a 1litre engine so it would not have much of the cost and it is a 1litre diesel engine then it will give better fuel economy as what the customer wants from his car. The diesel variant will demand a premium of Rs. 25,000-40,000 over the existing variants.
